Chaja
Chaja are a predominantly subterranean race, strong and healthy despite generations of enslavement by the shuddeni. While some are raised feral, out of captivity, the bulk of chaja are born into bondage in the underground cities of their masters. Traditionally meek and servile, a small subset have been known to break free, sometimes exacting bloody revenge upon their oppressors. Females are particularly notorious for their propensity for violence.
Averaging between six to eight feet tall, chaja possess dusky, blackish skin and milk-white eyes. While centuries beneath the lash have robbed the chaja of any capacity for magic, they have grown both muscular and quick. Their bodies are particularly hairy, giving even the "civilized" a wild, animalish look. Their strength rivals that of the fallen alatharya, allowing them to heft two-handed weapons in a single hand. Additionally, their eyes have adapted to dwelling so long in darkness, allowing them to see without light. Raised chiefly on scraps, chaja may eat almost anything without ill effect.
Because of their close ties with the shuddeni, chaja speak their masters' language and may never be good aligned. However, they may be neutral or evil and may be of any ethos. Chaja may be barbarians, gladiators, fighters, and bandits.
