History in Avendar
In the beginning, the universe consisted of unordered material and energy, primal chaos. Three beings of order were drawn to this chaos -- one light, one dark, and one neither. This third is the immortal now known to men as Iandir. To the chaos Iandir brought order, crafting the lands of Avendar. Through the centuries, Iandir has continued in this role. Through his influence were the first cities built, and the Code of Laws handed down. By his blessings, the Guardians of Law protect the laws he put forth. It was Iandir, as well, who introduced the orderly magics of Earth to the scholars of the Caladaran, from where its study spread all over the realm.
Through the events of Avendar's history, Iandir has stood by the side of law, overseeing the civilized lands and lending his blessing to those who would do his will.
Goals and Methods
Iandir wishes to see civilization and the rule of law spread to every corner of Avendar's harsh countryside. To this end, Iandir allies with other lawful gods to increase the reach of the cities and grants the protection of the Guardians to the major cities of the realm. To strengthen the civilized lands he encourages strong and honest leadership. A ruler who is trusted by the people can best command them. It is with this unity of purpose and clarity of place that the forces of law shall triumph over the ravening hordes of chaos.
Organizations and Followings
The organizations of the God of Order are regimented indeed. Groups who follow Iandir often have their own internal codes and guidelines to be followed, as well as clearly defined ranks and roles.
Crownbearers
"By Iandir's will, His law will be upheld."
Perhaps the most common branch of Iandir's worship, the Crownbearers seek to bring order and law to the realms. By defending the cities and hunting down criminals they strengthen the bonds of civilization that keep the populace secure. Commonly working with, or as, Guardians, the bearers of the Crown hold a close alliance with that house. With Iandir's mandate, they work to become leaders in their cities, to better prepare the citizens to repel those who would assail their walls.
Arbiters
"Cease your petty bickering, I have heard enough to pass judgment."
The Arbiters of Iandir act as judges and witnesses for the peoples of Avendar. They serve their Lord in his aspect as the patron of honesty by settling disputes and serving as a fair witness for those who need such service. The Judges cultivate a peerless reputation for honesty and fairness, so much so that the word of an Arbiter in matters of crime is as trusted as that of a Guardian for purposes of marking. Often, adventurers who undertake a matter of grave importance will ask one of the faithful for witness, that their tale will be taken as truth.
Architects
"A sturdy build and the craft is masterful. This shall weather the ages."
As Iandir molded and shaped the matter that would be the world, so too do the Architects. Working with stone and steel, the Builders use their craft to aid in the expansion, protection and beautification of civilized areas. The faithful often devote themselves to a variety of crafts. Sculpture is a common study, as is the building of houses. Due to their skill and connections, Architects are able to mitigate the costs of house construction when building for another. Many fund their other pursuits by providing such a service, taking a fair share of the coin saved.
Individual Followers
Lawfulness is the common thread that binds the faithful of the Crown. While each group may venerate each of Iandir's portfolios in different ways, they all follow the Laws of Iandir. Followers are always lawful in ethos and may be good, neutral or evil as long as they abide by their gods codes of order. The Crownsworn attempt to put aside one Endenday each month to meditate on the will of their Lord and their service to him.
Relationships
Iandir commands great respect from the lawful deities of Avendar, seeing him as something of a father figure for his hand in creating the world and its laws. On the other end, however, many of the gods of Chaos see Iandir as their arch-foe. His very existence denies Bayyal and Girikha their wishes, making him anathema. Tzajai, while not as militant (and not organized enough be effective as such), also opposes Iandir's arbitrary (to him) need for order. The chaotic gods of light are rarely hostile, but they and their followers often find the laws, however well intentioned, interfere with their attempts to do good.
